Helen Storey attended Hampstead Comprehensive School in North London and graduated in Fashion from Kingston Polytechnic in 1981. She trained with Valentino and Lancetti in Rome before launching her own label in 1984. Since the mid-90s, Storey has revisited what she describes as an undeveloped schoolgirl desire to understand and practice scientific research, which a culminated in a series of projects exploring the fields of biology, neuroscience and chemistry. Between 1984-1995 Helen built her reputation in the fashion world. Helen Storey established the Helen storey foundation in 1997, a not- for- profit arts organisation promoting creativity and innovation. The foundation has collaborated with many scientists. The welcome trust initiative “sci/art” promoting partnerships between science and art. In 2003 Helen Storey co-created the primitive streak, alongside her biologist sister, Kate Storey, it is science- art design collaboration. 27 dresses were designed to bring 11 key events in human embryonic to life in textile form. 27 pieces of textiles and dress that take the viewer through the first 1,000 hours of human life, from fertilization to the recognizable human form.

In October 2013 Mr. Nicholls contacted Helen Storey and discussed hosting the Field of Jeans Art installation on the site of Thomas Tallis School, as a way of stimulating thinking in all subject areas about their relationship to the issues that the installation raises.
How does the factor link to other factors, which explain why the field of jeans exists?
Helen Storey was the main factor driving this development. She was the creative drive behind the development of Catalytic Clothing, as a solution to the problem of pollution. The fact that the solution is in the form of clothing (jeans) is due to Storey's background as a fashion designer. She is also a bit of a rebel; so doing protest art fits with her character.
How does this relate to me?
Helen Storey and the field of jeans relates to us as it’s based on creativity. As both of us see a future for ourselves based of fashion and creativity. Poppy wants a future career in creative hair and makeup industry and Shona wants to be a fashion journalist. Therefore Helen Storey is a creative inspiration for the both of us.
